Experience a unique day trip to cap off the month of June!

Mount Pentelikon is an excellent mountain known for its ancient quarries and marble extraction. Marble is used to build famous monuments such as the Parthenon on the Acropolis of Athens. You can also visit the open-air museum of quarry art. 

Sophie de Marbois-Lebrun, the French duchess, known to the Greeks as the Duchess of Plaisance (Doukissa tis Plakentias), is a historical and enigmatic figure. She associated her name with Mount Pentelikon more than anyone else, becoming an integral part of its history and myths.

During our trip: 

We will visit Mount Pentelikon and learn about interesting stories and strange phenomena,

We will walk and tour the ancient quarries, where the famous marble used to build the Parthenon on the Acropolis (also known as Davelis' Cave) was exported. 

We will also visit the Open Museum of Quarry Art and admire the stone sculptures that harmonize with the surrounding nature.

We will walk to Old Penteli village where we will visit the Castello of Rododafni, the famous mansion of the Duchess and her summer residence, as well as other buildings and places associated with her name and 

We will end up in the welcoming garden of a favorite hostess, where we will finish our excursion with a light meal and chilled wine while continuing to share stories.

Indicative Schedule

• Meeting at Metro station “Doukissis Plakentias”.
• Tour of the Mount Pentelikon and its unique stories.
• Visit the ancient quarries of Penteli, where the famous marble for the construction of the Parthenon on the Acropolis (also known as Davelis' Cave) was exported. 
• Visit the Museum of Quarrying Art.
• Transfer to Old Penteli village and visit the Doukissa Plakentias Mansion.
• Walk in the community of Old Penteli and visit more landmarks related to the Duchess.
• Enjoy a light lunch with wine in a private mansion's garden, sharing (more) stories by the pool.
